The importance of education was a key focus in today’s autumn budget.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak outlined how providing a world class education is crucial for the UK to have higher productivity, and higher wages.

The budget set out skills spending which will see funding increase by £3.8bn (or 42%) over this parliament. The announcement is welcomed by Train4Tomorrow, a programme funded through the National Skills Fund which offers free, high quality, digital and technical training to employed and unemployed adults in the South West.

The training, which is designed by industry to meet open and live vacancies, includes skills bootcamps in welding, cyber security, engineering, plumbing, digital marketing and more. The bootcamps are delivered by expert partners across Devon, Plymouth, Somerset, Torbay, Cornwall and Dorset including Cornwall College, Bath College, Focus Training Group, Train4All and Truro & Penwith College.

Digital Skills Partnership Manager, Charlotte Collyer, said: “We are pleased to hear that training will continue to be a priority for the Government. The Train4Tomorrow bootcamps, which have been running since 2020, offer flexible 10 to 16 week digital and technical Skills Bootcamps, giving people the opportunity to build sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer. It is initiatives such as these which will be vital to the UK’s economic resilience in the future.”

Jim Griffiths, who took part in a digital Skills Bootcamp delivered by Bluescreen I,T said: “The Train4Tomorrow bootcamp gave me a great understanding in cyber technologies and strong foundations to develop these skills further. Since completing the bootcamp, I have gained the confidence to explore new opportunities for learning and new employment.”

Train4Tomorrow Skills Bootcamps are currently recruiting for places on courses from now until March 2022. Discover the range of courses available in the South West at train4tomorrow.org.uk
