Around the patch  – Marine Academy Plymouth World of Work Week 2020

Marine Academy Plymouth panel of guests

When faced with cancelling the Year 10 work experience week in July, Marine Academy Plymouth partnered with the Real Ideas Organisation (RIO) to offer a virtual World of Work Week in its place.

Over 4 consecutive days, the students were offered the chance to interact with a panel of guests from four different sectors. They were able to ask questions in real time, and hear first-hand how the panel members had ended up in their current roles.  After completing feedback forms the students were awarded digital badges for taking part.

Following the webinars Ed Hart from Rio said:
The webinars gave us a unique platform to connect young people with the world of work that exists within the city. They gave students a live and interactive experience and opportunity to quiz a really interesting range of professionals from some of Plymouth’s leading employers across a range of different sectors. The students asked some brilliant questions and were a credit to the school. They very much earned the digital badges that were awarded as a result of taking part.

Associate Assistant Principal for PSHE & Careers Shelley Walker said:
Students loved having the opportunity to hear from different sectors and find out about roles that they didn’t even know existed! Students also found that being able to engage with people in real time and ask questions during the webinars was what made this experience really stand out.

Have you done something amazing with your students? Let us know and we can share it!
