“In partnership with DWP and skills training and advice partners, Plymouth City Council is seeking to join up the right skills and training offer at a local level so that those in and around Plymouth can easily access support to improve their employment prospects. The skills and training landscape is complex and we know that people need advice on how to navigate their way through to further training and employment and our young people will need help to make their best informed next steps. We will also help employers to navigate new funding opportunities and ensure that their needs better shape local skills provision so that Plymouth businesses can attract and retain a skilled workforce.

To bring all of this together, we have planned ‘Skills Launchpad Plymouth’ – a single one-stop-shop skills response service. The Skills Launchpad is part of the wider regional response with the Launchpad for those in and around Plymouth the first to launch to help our people. The priorities are providing targeted support for our young people through the new Youth Hub and to those who are facing redundancy through the new Adult Hub. For Phase One we have developed an impartial, virtual service solution, with everything people will need to know to make an informed decision held in one central place www.skillslaunchpadplym.co.uk This has been a fantastic partnership response with all partners coming together non-competitively to support the schools, the employers and the people in and around Plymouth.

Skills Launchpad Plymouth is continuously developing and will provide orientation and ongoing real-time labour market intelligence as well as a comprehensive virtual one-stop-shop providing impartial information, advice and guidance, in order to match opportunities to pathways into education, training, apprenticeships, employment, work experience, volunteering and self-employment.

Alongside delivering this new virtual service, we also have plans to have a physical space. Subject to Covid-19 compliance and government guidelines, we hope in the near future to host events in our local communities and to provide a Skills Launchpad home somewhere central where local people will be able to pop in for a chat. Keep a look out for future updates.”
