Amy Kyme
Devon County Council
Amy Kyme is an Apprenticeships Administrator in our HR Strategy and Performance team at Devon County Council has just been appointed Regional Chair of the South West Young Apprenticeship Ambassador Network.
The Young Apprentice Ambassador Network (YAAN) is a community of inspiring, driven apprentices and former apprentices who have chosen to share their apprenticeship story with others.
“I joined Devon County Council in 2016 as a Business and Administration Apprentice and in April 2017 I secured a permanent role in Human Resources. In October 2018 I successfully completed my two-year Apprenticeship where I gained a Level 2 and Level 3 qualification with Skills Group. In September 2019 I started my current Apprenticeship, HR Support with Exeter College.
Working within the Apprenticeship Team means I’m passionate about all things Apprenticeships related! Which is why I joined the Young Apprentice Ambassador Network in 2018 and as of 2019 I became Vice Chair for the South West covering Devon and Somerset.
Since joining the network, it has opened so many opportunities for me, many that have helped to develop my skills and confidence. I attended a full day training session in Exeter when I first joined to help develop and practice my presentation skills, this session was also a great way to meet other ambassadors. During National Apprenticeship Week in 2018 I found myself back at my old school, St Peter’s Church of England Aided School, giving a talk to a whole year group about apprenticeships and my experiences. It was very daunting but gave me a great boost of confidence when I had done it. As well as visiting schools I’ve attended several events and been part of panels all through YAAN to promote Apprenticeships.
Being invited to become Chair is exciting and another chapter in my apprenticeship journey. I feel ready to support other YAAs to share their experiences, promote apprenticeships and build on our incredible network of inspiring Young Ambassadors here in the South West.
Life has become quite busy for me not only professionally but personally as in the Summer of 2019 I bought a house with my partner so there has been a lot of decorating (and trips to ikea) and hopefully this year we will have a finished garden!
